This is a unique opportunity to play a key role in supporting the policies that underpin London’s culture, creative industries and night time economy by becoming a member on the Mayor’s Cultural Leadership Board. The Mayor will appoint up to ten new members, and a Chair from the new or existing members.

As a member, known as Ambassadors, you will work alongside the Chair to catalyse new strategic partnerships, advocate for culture, and help steer the delivery of the Mayor’s policies, keeping him and his Deputy Mayor for Culture and the Creative Industries, Justine Simons OBE, abreast of emerging and ongoing issues facing the creative industries and culture sector and the night time economy.

We are particularly looking for people with expertise outlined below as these skills are currently underrepresented on the Board:

·       sustainability and environment

·       nightlife

·       creative space provider and/or developer

·       place-making and/or regeneration

·       heritage and museums

·       tourism and hospitality

·       health and wellbeing

·       online influencers and/or creative content producers

·       funding and financing models

·       AI and future technologies.

The Chair will need to have: strong leadership capability to deal with multiple stakeholders from a variety of areas; experience in leading and chairing partnerships, governance structures or advisory groups and managing a group of high level experts working in a non-executive capacity; have excellent communication skills; and be a confident public speaker with experience of operating effectively within a sensitive and political environment.

All candidates will need to demonstrate a strong personal commitment to promoting London’s culture, creative industries and night time offer.

London’s creative economy is worth £51.7 billion and accounts for one in five jobs. Four out of five visitors come for London’s culture, and we have some of the best talent in the world. Engaging with culture improves the health and wellbeing of Londoners. It offers young people a positive life path, revitalises our neighbourhoods and brings communities together. Culture makes a difference to our lives and the success of our city. You will advocate for the value of culture and the nighttime economy, playing a major role in creating a city where creative people can thrive, whatever their background, where Londoners can access culture wherever they live, and which operates fairly around the clock.

Ambassadors will commit up to 60 hours a year to the Board. This includes 4 official board meetings, usually at City Hall. All Ambassadors will also be invited to attend up to three events per year on behalf of the Mayor’s Cultural Leadership Board to advocate for Culture, Creative Industries and the 24 Hour London. These include Greater London Authority events associated with the Mayor of London programmes and external events.
