The Arts Council England is the national development agency for arts and culture in England, and aims to champion, develop and invest in culture that enrich people’s lives.
The Mayor of London is seeking to appoint a new Chair and two Members of the London Area Council of Arts Council England. The Chair will also be a member of the Arts Council England National Council.
Culture is London’s DNA, it embodies the capital’s diversity and we want it to be accessible to all Londoners. For each position, we are keen to hear from leaders across all parts of the community.
The London Area Council provides strategic support and investment in the arts and make a great contribution to the capital’s social, economic and cultural life.
Members of this Board are ambassadors for the Arts Council and passionate advocates for the capital’s arts and culture. We are looking for strategic and imaginative thinkers with excellent communication skills, to provide guidance and advice on important decisions, help to shape policies and strategies, and contribute to the development of priorities including headline budgets.
The Chair will lead the Area Council, and play a significant role in shaping the future of our capital’s cultural life, at an exciting and challenging time. As Chair, you will be a strategic, imaginative thinker with strong business or organisational skills. You will champion skills, diversity and the use of digital technology; have good relationships with stakeholders and build on those; develop the resilience of the sector and increase the reach of the arts.

How to Apply
You are asked to submit a CV and covering letter (max 5 sides in total) giving details of the relevant experience that equips you to serve as Chair or Member of the London Area Council, in particular addressing the criteria listed under role specification.
It is important you specify in your cover letter if you wish to be considered for the role of Chair, Area Council Member or if you wish to be considered for both roles.
The CV should include details of employment, public appointments, qualifications history, any directorships you hold.
